Apr. 2003 Competition Levels A - Advanced B - Intermediate C - Novice Judging 9 = Honor Award 8 = Merit award 7 = Honorable Mention award 6 = better than average, not
an award 5 = average 4 = below average 3 = below average There is no restriction on the
amount of prints or slides that can receive each score. The judge has the option to hold any
print/slide during the judging. He/She
may then look at the held print or slide again before giving it a score. Scoring There are no restrictions on
the amount of awards that can be given in each category. There will be a print and slide of the
month chosen from the top photos in each category. Special subject winners are
not eligible to participate in the year-end competition. Points assigned toward the end
of the year totals are as follows: Each
entry = 1 pt Honor(9) = 10 pts Merit
(8) = 7 pts HM(7) = 5 pts Divisions Category Levels Color Print A,
B, C Monochrome Print A,
B, C Slides - A,
B, C Special Subject Slides - no level Print no level
There will be three divisions
in each category, except special subject, regardless of the number of
entries. Competition Committee There is a competition
committee appointed by the executive board and shall include at least two
members and the vice president. Promotion to a higher level At the end of the year, the
Competition Committee will meet to determine which members shall be moved
to different levels. Movement will
be based on total points and percentage of wins against number of entries. If a member spends a year in a
higher division, and does not win, he may choose to revert to a lower
division after a discussion with the competition committee, and approval of
the executive board. Resubmitting Prints or slides that do not
win any awards in their first competition may be submitted two (2)
additional times. Prints or slides that have won
an Award may not be resubmitted in any other medium. Prints or slides that are
identical or nearly identical to previous winning entries are ineligible. Winning entries in any special
subject competition, which does not award points
may be resubmitted in any open competition. End of the Year Competition There will be one (1) judge and
the in/out method will be used to select a Print and Slide of the year,
plus a runner up, in each category. From
those, final Awards will be given to one (1) color print winner, one (1)
monochrome print winner and one (1) slide winner. These will be deemed slide and prints of
the year. Awards Ribbons will be awarded to
Honor/Medal, Merit, and Honorable Mention.
